Auckland survived a scare against Northland with a strong second-half securing a 28-12 win today in Whangarei that put them at the top of ITM Cup ladder.
The Aucklanders trailed 12-7 at halftime after an opening 40 minutes in which the Taniwha scrambled effectively and scored two good tries through Rene Ranger and Jack Hohaia.
Hohaia’s try in particular was one for the highlight reel with Ranger bursting onto an offload from a player on the ground before busting a tackle and then offloading to the try-scorer.
Auckland responded in the second half with Blues player Melani Nanai scoring shortly after the break to spark a four-try second half.
The bonus-point win sees Auckland move to the top of the premiership ladder, one point above Tasman and North Harbour.
