Elderly Kiwi blokes who never learnt to cook are heading back to school for a lesson in the culinary arts.

The course, supervised by Age Concern Otago, is mostly taken by men learning to cook for the first time.

"Food is social - it's to be shared - so when you're cooking for one, it can be a struggle no matter what your age," Age Concern Otago's Kristen Beardsmore said.

TVNZ1's Seven Sharp's Mike Thorpe joined the gentlemen as they donned aprons and headed into the kitchen.
