An 82-year-old jewellery designer is making architecture as accessories.

Kansas-born Jose Breebeska had his makings in architecture, but a weekend jewellery making course set him on a new path.

He mixes buildings into his jewellery using electroplayted-brass and acrylic.

When he launched in 1968, not everyone was convinced.

Breebeska said everyone thought he was too futuristic.

"They said it's not your time ... you need to come back in fifty years from now.  It's fifty years today, full circle."

One of those who saw his talent was Kiwi fashion house, WORLD.

"Jose first approached us 25 years ago soon after we opened and asked if we'd be interested in selling his rings, he'd been told that was only one shop he'd fit into," says WORLD's Dame Denise L'Estrange-Corbet.

When WORLD showed at London Fashion Week in 1999, it was Breebeska's jewellery that went down the runway.

Dame Denise L'Estrange-Corbet says, "This is something you haven't seen for 20 years."

After 50 years they thought it was time to honour the designer with an exhibition.
