Major delays expected on SH1 in Waikato after five vehicles crash in two separate incidents

Major delays are expected on SH1 in northern Waikato after two separate crashes in close proximity.

St John says one person was seriously hurt, and one suffered moderate injuries in the incidents at Meremere.

They have been taken to Auckland's Middlemore Hospital. 

Early indications are that up to five vehicles are involved in what could be two different crashes.

A lane in each direction remain blocked as emergency services attend the scene.

Extensive delays are expected.
