One killed after two-car crash in Bay of Plenty

One person has died following a two-car crash today in Whakamarama in Bay of Plenty.

Two cars collided on SH 2 near Munro Road at around 11:20am, which resulted in both lanes of State Highway 2 being closed.

Emergency services were called to the crash scene shortly after.

The sole occupant of one vehicle has died at the scene, and one person in the second vehicle received moderate injuries.

A short diversion has been in place through Munro Road, however the highway is expected to reopen before 2pm.

The Serious Crash Unit is currently investigating the incident.
