It's a wet Monday for many, with a low pressure system hitting many parts of the country, TVNZ 1 Breakfast presenter Matty McLean says.

There are chances of heavy downpours in Bay of Plenty, Tongariro, Mt Taranaki, Nelson, Buller, the Marlborough Sounds and Westland.

They are watches at this stage, but there is a chance they will be upgraded.

There are also chance of rain - possibly heavy and thundery - in the upper North Island.

Auckland can expect 18 degrees.

Sadly, the forecast tomorrow is much of the same.
