When Canterbury begin their Mitre 10 Cup title defence against Tasman in Blenheim tomorrow night, skipper Mitchell Drummond will find himself against his flatmate, Crusaders teammate Mitchell Hunt.

A Tasman native himself, Drummond, 24, will captain Canterbury against his home province, with the Mako to be steered around the park by first-five Hunt.

Speaking to media at his side's training this morning, Drummond said that it'll be strange coming up against a familiar face.

"It's going to be a bit weird actually," he began.

"I've spoken to a few of them this week, it's not going to seem quite right on Friday night to start with.

"But I think once the whistle blows, and once we get into it, it'll be just another game of footy - (but) I'm looking forward to catching up with all those guys after the game."
