A man is set to appear in Nelson District Court today over a threatening phone call that put a school into lockdown.

Police say the 56-year-old man faces a variety of charges following an incident at Takaka School yesterday.

They say a threatening phone call yesterday morning prompted the school to go into temporary lockdown — a standard response to any perceived threat.

They say at no time were any children at risk.
