A New Zealand police road accident sign

A man has died after a crash near Timaru in Canterbury last night, police say.

The crash took place at the intersection of the Temuka-Orari Highway and Barker Road in Winchester about 10.21pm.

The deceased was aged 34 and he was the only person in the car.

Police say the Serious Crash Unit will investigate.
