A Sydney boy accused of trying to murder a pregnant physiotherapist has spent the night behind bars.
The 14-year-old, who can't be named for legal reasons, spent last night in a youth remand centre on charges of attempted murder and three other offences.
He's accused of breaking into the Mt Colah home of physio and pilates instructor Pei-Jiun Cheah and stabbing her several times in the chest and abdomen on Thursday night.
Ms Cheah, who is seven months pregnant, and her unborn child were in a stable condition at Royal North Shore Hospital yesterday.
"This was a senseless, terrible, and random act of violence inflicted on a pregnant mother within her own home," her family said in a statement.
The family thanked those who came to Ms Cheah's aid and requested privacy, saying they were all now "solely focused" on her full recovery.
The boy was remanded in custody after making no application for bail when his matter came before a children's court on Saturday.
He is expected to next appear via video link before a children's court on September 25.
