One person is dead after a serious two-car crash in Coromandel.

Police say they were called to the scene between Kirikiri Valley Road and Puketui Road at 3.16pm today.

One person was killed and three others are in serious to moderate conditions after the crash.

Kopu-Hikuai Road is closed and diversions are in place.
