Students have blocked one of central Auckland's key streets this afternoon to highlight the plight of some of Auckland University's libraries.
They want the university's Vice-Chancellor sacked.
The university is looking at closing down three specialist libraries to cut costs; libraries for Fine Arts, Music and Dance, and Architecture and Planning.
Students occupied the Fine Arts library for a time late last month .

Today they took to Symonds Street saying they were protesting against the closures, job losses and problems with tertiary funding.
"Universities serve a vital role in acting as a critic and conscience of society. This restructure undermines that fundamental role," they said.

Police could be seen pushing protestors back who were blocking an intersection, in a video posted on social media .
Symonds Street runs along the university buildings and is a key route for public transport.
