One man has been charged while two others have been released from police custody after they swarmed an Auckland suburb today and found one man hiding in a hallway at Otahuhu College.

Police say a 21-year-old male who had a parole recall warrant has also been charged with reckless driving, failing to stop, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, possession of a meth pipe and other unrelated charges.

Two other men detained by police in the same operation have since been released without charge.

The drama unfolded this morning when the trio failed to stop for police and were seen heading in to Otahuhu College about 9.30am.

Police put King's College and Otahuhu College, which are adjacent, into lockdown and dog units and armed police "who happened to be nearby" came to help "as a precaution", police said, adding that no weapons were found on the men.

Two of the trio were quickly arrested with the final person found about an hour later hiding inside a school hallway.

The 21-year-old man who has been charged is due to appear tomorrow in the Manukau District Court.
