Watch: 'Give us 20 push ups!' Steve Hansen filmed giving Damian McKenzie absolute roasting during Amazon's All Blacks documentary

May 11, 2018

Amazon Prime has released a trailer for its documentary series about the All Blacks, which is narrated by Taika Waititi.

The six-part series, which follows the team last season including the tumultuous Lions tour, is released on June 1.

Waititi tries to give US audiences an understanding of the sport and the team.

“Rugby is 80 unrelenting minutes, no helmets, no pads, this is the most mentally demanding, physically gruelling, adrenaline pumping sport on the planet,” Waititi says.

"For the first time this notoriously secret team is pulling back the black curtain,” he adds.

The clip covers some of the most controversial moments of the Lions Tour including Sonny Bill Williams becoming just the third All Black to be sent off, during the Second Test against the Lions.

“It’s something I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life,” Williams says of the moment.

The clip includes interviews with coach Steve Hansen, players and their families too.

Ben Smith candidly discussing his highly-publicised battle with concussion and how it could affect his loved ones.

“The most important job is being a dad and a husband, the scariest thing is if I wasn’t able to do that,” he says.

The father of winger Rieko Ioane, himself a former Manu Samoa player, recalls the moment his son told him he was starting against the Lions.

“He said I made it dad, I’m starting, it’s a dream come true,” Eddie says.

Amazon Prime said they were given unprecedented access to players and coaches who were mic'd up during trainings, with coach Steve Hansen dressing down Damian McKenzie at one point for a loose pass.

“You want to throw the ball away like that, give me 20 push ups,” Hansen barks.

The series will be available to Amazon Prime's subscribers in over 200 countries.
