Newly appointed Carlos Spencer says he can't wait to work with his new side's star studded backline talent, after being announced as a Hurricanes assistant coach next season.

Spencer, 42, was today confirmed in the role from the 2019 season onwards, relishing the chance to rub shoulders with a backline that's cemented their position as the best in provincial rugby.

Speaking to media today, Spencer revealed the prospect of working with the likes of Beauden and Jordie Barrett, Ngani Laumape and Nehe Milner-Skudder and others at the 'Canes was an exciting one.

"Hopefully I can bring some fresh ideas, maybe a bit of stuff outside the box, maybe some freaky stuff who knows," Spencer said.

"I'm excited by it, and I'm sure I’m going to learn a lot from these guys as well. They've got some experienced players here - TJ (Perenara), Beaudy (Beauden Barrett) - and I'm sure I'm going to learn a lot off these guys, and that's what I’m looking forward to as well.

"And if I can teach them something along the way, then that's going to be great. I'm just really looking forward to working with these guys."
