Former Blues great Carlos Spencer admitted his concern for his former side, having gone through another season to forget in Super Rugby.
Having finished bottom of the New Zealand Super Rugby conference every year since 2013, the Blues are all but confirmed to be the Kiwi wooden spoon recipients once again this year.
Speaking to media after having been confirmed as an assistant coach for the Hurricanes in 2019, Spencer spoke of his feeling towards watching his former side struggle.
"Obviously watching the Blues, with what they've gone through in the past, and what they're going through now, I feel for them," he said.
"I just wish they were doing a lot better, and hopefully one day they will do a lot better. The passion and the pride is still there for me.
I'm really passionate about the Blues. I spent a lot of time there, they've given me so much over the years."
Spencer also spoke about his feelings towards having to come up against his old side, when the Hurricanes meet the Blues from next year onwards, as well as when they face one another at Eden Park this week.
"My role obviously starts with the Hurricanes next year. So at the moment, I suppose it is a foot in both camps. I just wish both sides all the best for this week."
"In terms of Friday night, I'm probably going to have to put my Hurricanes hat on now, and say 'let's go Hurricanes'".
