Police are asking the Tauranga community for information after they now believe the "execution style" murder of local man David Kuka was a case of mistaken identity.
The 52-year-old Mr Kuka was shot at his Wilrose Place, Gate Pa, address on February 11 this year.
He died at the scene shortly after emergency services arrived.
Following extensive inquiries police now say they believe the murder was a case of mistaken identity and 52-year-old Mr Kuka was not believed to be the intended victim.
Police say Mr Kuka was shot "execution style" in a "premeditated and cowardly" murder.
Police are now interested in a silver vehicle seen near the scene at the relevant time.
The 52-year-old was described as typically keeping to himself, but did work at a local shop and enjoyed carving items for his family and friends.
The investigation team would like to speak to anyone who recognises the vehicle in the images attached.
