Jodee Dyball loves her brick house – the colour of the bricks, the low maintenance – that's largely why she bought it.

So, she was upset when a neighbour's car crashed into the side of the house last September, but relieved when her insurance company AMI talked to the neighbour's insurer and got the ball rolling for a repair.

Then she discovered the bricks that need replacing were no longer manufactured, and she couldn't source them anywhere.

She wasn't happy to do a patch up job with different bricks, and in the end felt the whole bottom story needed to be re-bricked.

Her insurer, AMI, said although it would completely replace the bricks on the two damaged sides of the house for aesthetic reasons, it would not cover any work on the undamaged parts of the house, that is, the other two sides.

Jodee says having two different types of bricks would look terrible, and devalue her property, so she has reached stalemate with AMI.

AMI says it's made several offers to Jodee, and is disappointed that she feels they haven't done enough.

AMI wants a sit-down with Jodee to try and reach an fair and reasonable outcome – under her policy.

If a solution can't be reached, Jodee plans to take her case to the Insurance Ombudsman.

Meantime – Fair Go is looking for the missing bricks.

Please get in touch if you have – or know of - a stash of these wheat coloured bricks, probably made by the Midlands Brickworks in Australia.

The bricks have rounded edges and the dimensions are 230mm (L) 70mm (W) 75mm (H).
