A localised state of emergency has been lifted in Rotorua one week after heavy rain caused widespread flooding in the region.
The State of Emergency was put in place to help emergency services evacuate people in Ngongotaha.
In a statement, Rotorua Lakes Council said community support was the council's main priority despite the State of Emergency being lifted for the area this evening.
"We acknowledge that this is still an emergency situation so we are now transitioning into a dual mode of response and recovery," Group Manager Infrastructure Stavros Michael said.
More volunteers are expected to arrive tomorrow to join council staff who have been helping with the evacuation and recovery effort in the past week.
Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick said it will take months to know the full extent of the damage, and the recovery process is ongoing.
'This is going to be a long journey for some people and we are building an action plan to ensure that support is available throughout that time," Ms Chadwick said.
"Our focus will remain on helping people adjust to the changes ahead as they rebuild their lives."
Over 100 properties still need to be inspected following the flooding.
