Dunedin house again goes up in flames – site of alleged double homicide in January

May 4, 2018

A Dunedin house which was the site of an alleged double murder in January has gone up in flames for the second time this year.

The property on Wesley St, South Dunedin, was reported on fire at 1am this morning.

Police today confirmed this was the same house in which, on January 22 this year, two people were found dead after a blaze in the house was extinguished.

It was subsequently determined by Dunedin Police that the deceased couple, David Ian Clarke and Anastasia Margaret Neve, were not killed by the fire.

In February this year a man was charged with double murder over the two deaths.

Dunedin Police confirmed that this morning's blaze occurred in the same Wesley St house in which the murders allegedly occurred.

Dunedin CIB are investigating and will be completing a scene examination this morning, NZ Police said.

Following the blaze this morning a fire spokesperson said "It's not known at this stage if it is suspicious or not, it's pending investigation".

Four fire trucks attended the blaze this morning.
