April 27, 2018

Police are warning of possible congestion and road closures in Auckland tonight as they look to ensure the safety of those taking part in a memorial motorcycle ride to honour Johnny 'Danger' Bennett who was killed in an Anzac Day motorcycle accident.

The ride is scheduled to leave from Auckland's Quay St between 9pm and 10pm, tracing Danger's final journey to the site where he died on Dairy Flat Highway in Albany.

"We want to make sure Johnny is memorialised in a proper and safe way," Inspector Trevor Beggs said in a video posted to Facebook today.

Text accompanying the posts states the police will be: "Monitoring the ride-along to manage traffic and ensure riders and other members of the public are safe on the roads tonight."

Earlier today police confirmed it was Bennett that died in a motorcycle crash at 2.30pm on Dairy Flat Highway near Lucas Heights, Albany, on April 25.

Police said in a statement today his death has been referred to the Coroner and the Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

Bennett was a well known stunt man with a large social media following - over 290,000 strong on Facebook.
