The Rugby Football Union has defended the exorbitant $384 (£195) ticket prices for the All Blacks’ clash with England at Twickenham in November.

The price for the match, which is the first time the two sides have played since 2014, is the highest outside of World Cup matches, the Telegraph reports.

The RFU says every penny of profit from the November 10 fixture will be invested back into the sport.

High-end Six Nations prices are $325 (£165) but the price rise has been offset by the fact that children’s tickets are on sale for the first time, it says.

The cheapest ticket on sale is $39 (£20) with discounted prices on offer for half of the 82,000 tickets.

Chief executive Steve Brown said the RFU were looking to capitalise on the demand for the All Blacks to raise funds for the sport.

"We are not here to make profit per se but to generate a return to be invested back into the game," said Brown, who also revealed that there would be around 8000 free tickets offered to 16-24-year-old players registered at clubs for the England-Barbarians game at Twickenham on May 27.
