As many as 24,000 Vector customers may have had their privacy breached following a glitch in the electricity provider's app.

Vector has apologised after it was discovered personal data, including names, phone numbers and email addresses, were accessible to other users of the app.

The app was used largely during the storm that caused widespread power outages across Auckland.

It has since been disabled.
