A Christchurch homeowner is remaining staunch on day eight of his hunger strike in a bid to get his earthquake insurance claim with Southern Response settled.
Seven years on from the Christchurch earthquakes, Mr Glasson's family's claim still hasn't been resolved and he began a hunger strike outside the office of government insurer Southern Response on Monday last week.
Experts say not eating can prove fatal after about 20 days, but Mr Glasson told 1 NEWS he's is determined to continue without food.
"I'm absolutely determined. There's been a number of people calling my bluff on this. And my wife and I have discussed it and I will go the distance," he said.
"I've lost over five kilograms now and still haven't eaten, just taking electrolytes and yeah, feeling just a bit weaker and a bit more tired really," he said.
"I started off losing about a kilogram a day but I think my body's starting to realise that I'm not eating. So I'm starting to lose less weight which is interesting. My trousers are starting to fall off me."
Some progress has been made since he started the hunger strike.
Mr Glasson says his lawyer are negotiating with Southern Response lawyers.
"We're entering into an alternative process that instead of going to court we will go through a separate process that will be quicker and hopefully cheaper for both sides," he said.
"The Christchurch High Court is really failing all of our insurance claimants in Christchurch and this alternative process is something that I think should be allowed for all insurance claimants instead."
Mr Glasson says he appreciates Southern Response now entering into negotiations about a separate process.
"I just don't think it should have taken this to have done that."
Mr Glasson said he and his wife have had "massive public support" and they're overwhelmed by it.
