Lydia Ko's former coach says he hasn't enjoyed watching the Kiwi golfer's fall from grace in the LPGA but he thinks he knows why it's happening.
David Leadbetter, who coached Ko from 2013 to 2016, joined the discussion around Ko's decline in golf over the past two years, said he thinks the 20-year-old can still win Majors but there's a lesson to be learned.
''Hopefully, Lydia is able to resurrect her game. She obviously still has the talent, but it's not always an easy task to climb back up the mountaintop," he wrote on his website.
''Lydia is a great young lady, we only wish the best for her. We honestly felt that if the decision was left entirely up to her, that she would still be with us.
''Not only did Lydia change her swing and putting coaches, but also her equipment company (Callaway), caddy, workout coach, sports psychologist, and putting grip company. So many changes can be extremely hard to absorb. This year, she even changed her swing coach and caddy once again.
''Lydia can certainly win more tournaments, even Majors, but there's no possible way that she can play better than she played for those first three years. It just goes to show, that not always is the grass greener on the other side of the hill.''
Ko hasn't won a tournament in a year and half and has fallen from her world no.1 ranking to 16th in that time.
In seven tournaments this season, she has missed the cut once with her best placing being a tie for 10th in the HBSC World Championship last month.
She's currently competiting in the LA Open but a poor four-over second round has seen her drop to a tie for 55th.
She will likely survive the cut just as she sits three-over overall.
