A road traffic controller with 14 drink driving convictions was back in the Kaitaia District Court today, after blowing more than three times the drink driving limit.
Fifty-two year old Stanley Tuho admitted to driving drunk again, but through his lawyer, disputed driving badly, saying he only crossed the white line.
Tuho blew a reading of 884 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath last month.
The judge said he was lucky to be granted bail today, saying she gave serious thought to remanding him in prison due to the need to ensure public safety.
However, strict bail conditions including no drinking or drug-taking meant she had “clipped his wings” and isn’t another “cost to society”.
She noted Tuho was taking steps towards rehabilitation but that he could be facing a jail sentence.
