Taco Bell to open in NZ 'in not too distant future'

April 18, 2018

Taco Bell is coming to New Zealand in the "not too distant future", according to Restaurant Brands chief executive.

The US Tex-Mex restaurants are owned by Restaurant Brands, which also own KFC, Pizza Hut, Carl’s Jr and Starbucks.

Restaurant Brands chief executive Russel Creedy told RNZ on Wednesday that Taco Bell would open its first store in NZ in a year or two.

"It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, I can see it being in the not too distant future, a year or two, and I'm looking forward to it," Creedy said.

Creedy’s comments come a day after Restaurant Brands teased that a "further brand" would be introduced to New Zealand by the company.

The success of the first Taco Bell store in Australia prompted Creedy to say in December that a Taco Bell could open as soon as 2018.

Restaurant Brands purchased Taco Bell and Pizza Hut stores in Hawaii in 2016 for $146 million.

The company posted a net profit of $35.5 million for the year to February 26, up 36 per cent, mainly off the back of strong performance from KFC, which opened its 100 th store in NZ recently.
