Petrol prices have increased by 5% in the past year with the average price for a litre of 91 octane being $2 in March 2018, Stats NZ said today.
"This is the highest level since the December 2014 quarter," prices senior manager Paul Pascoe said.
The rising crude oil prices, and falling exchange rate have contributed to the problem.
Petrol prices have had mixed moves in different regions, rather than having a rise or fall consistently at a national level.
Auckland petrol prices increased 6.5% in the year ended March 2018.
And a planned Government levy and an Auckland Council fuel tax looks set to bump up that price by up to 20c a litre over the next 12 months.
