National Party leader Simon Bridges says the new Northcote candidate Dan Bidois is a "top guy"who went from high school drop out to gaining a master's degree from Harvard.
"He's gone from high school drop out, butcher's apprentice, to a guy who got a bit of a break, went to university, has a master's from Harvard," Mr Bridges told TVNZ1's Breakfast today.
Mr Bidois will go up against Labour's Shanan Halbert, who ran against former Northcote electorate National MP Jonathan Coleman, closing the margin between National and Labour from a 9,700 majority in the 2014 election to 6,200 in 2017.
Mr Bridges said he was "confident, but no overly condifent" of a National win in the Auckland electorate.
He thought transport would be a big issue for the people of Northcote.
