Black Sticks hockey women's captain Stacey Michelsen has been named flag bearer for the New Zealand Team at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony tonight.
Rob Waddell made the announcement this afternoon as the New Zealand Team gathered ahead of the Closing Ceremony tonight.
"Each and every one of our athletes has been outstanding here on the Gold Coast," said Waddell. "They have each represented New Zealand with pride, they have supported each other and given it their all for our country.There is no doubt, they have Earned the Fern.
"Stacey led the women’s team to a historic first ever Gold medal at a major games," continued Waddell.
Stacey herself was delighted to be named flag bearer saying: "To be named flag bearer is a huge honour. The New Zealand Team is made up of so many amazing athletes. Being surrounded by them has been inspiring.
"Our success with the New Zealand women’s hockey team was really exciting and I can’t wait to have the moment with them and the wider team as I wave the flag tonight."
Michelsen will lead a team of around 250 members of the New Zealand team into the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony tonight which will be broadcast on TVNZ 1 and OnDemand.
