Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has Dame Valerie Adams to thank for a key piece of new parenting advice.
At a Commonwealth Games medal celebration at ANZ New Zealand House, Dame Valerie Adams, Eliza McCartney and Jo Edwards were invited on stage alongside the Prime Minister.
Silver medallist, Dame Valerie spoke about what she's learned in the past six months after giving birth to her daughter Kimoana, offering a piece of advice for the soon-to-be mum Ms Ardern.
"Six months ago my life changed forever by having my little girl and I didn’t know exactly what I was getting myself into, because they don’t exactly give you a handbook – Jacinda, just saying.
"Antenatal classes they talk about how your going to give birth, they don’t really tell you what to do after with a baby. So big ups to all the mums out there."
Competing and winning a medal just six months after giving birth was hard work for the dedicated shot put star.
But thanks to her family, and especially her mother-in-law she was able to get to the podium.
"Big ups to my mother in law who has taken care of my baby for term one to enable me to be able to train, but also be sitting here wearing the silver fern, competing for my country, winning a silver medal."
