David Nyika is fighting for a second consecutive Commonwealth Games gold - and the man standing in his way should hold few fears for the champion Kiwi boxer.
Nyika overcame a slow start to eventually prevail in a unanimous decision over England's Cheavon Clarke on the Gold Coast today, sweeping the final two rounds after the opener went to the man in blue.
He's now got the chance to back up his 81kg gold from Glasgow with a second at 91kg.
In tomorrow's decider he'll meet local hero Jason Whateley, a fighter he's beaten three times previously.
"I can't take anyone as a given, he's a tough dude and know every time if I don't bring my A-game, he'll expose me, and no-one wants that," he told 1 NEWS' Stephen Stuart.
"I'm over halfway there, I'm here to stay!"
Nyika took a couple of heavy blows - dishing out just as many - and was confident his body would hold out for his final fight.
"Heads came together a couple of times, I hope my mum won't disown me," he said.
David Nyika will fight for gold at 3.32pm this afternoon.
