Blacks Sticks captain Stacey Michelsen admits to feeling a sense of delight and relief when her match-winning penalty shot saw her side win through to Saturday's gold medal match at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
The score against England was tied at 0-0 after normal time, so the match went to penalty shoot-out, where reserve keeper Grace O'Hanlan saved four of five shots.
Sam Harrison scored for NZ, before Michelsen secured the result with a stunning flick shot.
She admitted to 1 NEWS' Kimberlee Downs there were mixed emotions when that final shot went in.
"I think a combination of excitement and relief," she said.
"Shoot-outs for us have been a real spot in the past so to come out with a win today was a great feeling."
New Zealand will play Australia after they beat India in the second semi-final last night.
