Early snow fall at Mt Hutt gives pair a taste of ski season to come

April 12, 2018

Mount Hutt ski field had an early coating of snow in the southerly blast this week, giving two visitors a chance to hit the slopes two months ahead of the season's scheduled opening.

Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager James McKenzie says the mountain received 50 centimetres of wind-affected snow on Tuesday and Wednesday.

He filmed mum Clare and daughter Naomi White "who spent the first day of their nine-day trip in New in New Zealand skiing at Mt Hutt Ski Area".

Mr McKenzie says the access road was cleared of snow drifts and the main trails were skiing nicely.

The field is scheduled to open for the season on June 8.
