5:54pm: Men's boxing

That's the end of the fight. What a great fight. Nyika probably shaded it but Clarke came forward the whole time and landed some great shots.

5:50pm: Men's boxing

A better round from Nyika, he probably won that. He started to counter Clarke's overhead right nicely.

5:45pm: Men's boxing

A very interesting first round. Probably a bit close for Nyika's liking, He let Clarke spend a lot of time on the inside which will concern the Kiwi's corner.

5:42pm: Men's boxing

We're on! This fight is live on Duke so check it out.

5:40pm: Men's boxing

Big roar for David as he approaches the ringer. Shot to that strong Kiwi contingent on the Goldie!

Nice! The Kiwi pair dominate the Aussies in the second game 11 - 6 to take us to a decider.

4:46pm: Men's rugby sevens

Bad news for the sevens team ahead of their first game tomorrow, Joe Webber, who was a member of the 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medal winning team, has withdrawn from the squad due to injury.

He has been replaced by Akuila Rokolisoa

The Kiwi's up 4 - 3 in the second game hoping to take it to a third.

4:34pm: Men's squash

The Aussies win the first game 11 - 9. Bit of work for Paul Coll and Campbell Grayson now but they're more than capable of bouncing back.

4:15pm: Men's squash

Away from the mountain biking controversy and the men's double quarterfinal has just got underway in the squash.

The Aussie pair lead the Kiwis by 3 - 2 in the first game. Best out of 3 games in this one.

4:10pm:   Men's mountain biking

New Zealand's Chef De Mission Rob Waddell also talked to media about the mountain biking incident this afternoon.

"What happened was regrettable but full credit to the mountain bikers for fronting up.

"We didn't put any pressure on Gaze to apologise, he did that himself and it was very genuine remorse that he felt."

3:57pm: Men's mountain biking

Sam Gaze has fronted media after yesterday's shocking fallout between him and fellow Kiwi Anton Cooper.

"I experienced how pressure brings out the best and the worst in people.

"In the heat of the moment I made a decision that was probably the worst one in my life and I have to live with that," Gaze said.

He also addressed the controversial moment he appeared to pull the fingers at Cooper when he didn't stop to help him with a punctured tyre.

"It was a stressful moment for me in the race, in my head I thought it was gone, with all those emotions you make a heat of the moment decision and you have to live with that."

3:37pm: Squash

Next up for the Kiwis Paul Coll and Campbell Grayson have a grudge match against the Aussies in the doubles quarterfinals.

2:52pm - Boxing

That's the end of the fight and we wait on the decision. A brave effort from Garton but it's almost certainly going the way of Australia. That's official, Garton is the unanimous winner.

2:48pm - Boxing

The second round was better from Garton. She got inside more effectively but the Aussie probably still took the round.

2:41pm - Boxing

A nice first round from the Aussie fighter, who has a crisp jab. Plenty for Garton to address in her corner.

2:35pm - Boxing

Troy Garton is the middle of her ringwalk and she's all smiles with a big roar. We're just about ready to go.

12:57pm - Diving

Cui is back on the board and it's not her best effort as she is failed. She's in 13th now. NZ's other competitor in this event Shaye Boddington is in 9th and a good chance of qualifying.

10:45am: PREVIEW

Two New Zealand track and field athletes at opposite ends of their athletics careers will chase Commonwealth Games gold at Carrara Stadium today.

Dame Valerie Adams is hunting her fourth gold from five Commonwealth Games when she lines up in the shot put, just six months after the birth of daughter Kimoana.

The double Olympic champion managed to top qualifying on Thursday with a season's best 18.52m - over a metre clear of her closest opposition.

Given her fierce competitive nature, the 33-year-old Aucklander still presents a formidable challenge despite her recent lack of competition.

At the other end of the spectrum is 21-year-old pole vaulter Eliza McCartney, who burst onto the international scene two years ago when she won bronze at the Rio Olympics.

McCartney, who has an all-time best of 4.82m, is completing her comeback from an Achilles tendon injury and is eyeing gold after clearing an unofficial personal best 4.90m in an Auckland street vault competition two weeks ago.

Elsewhere, boxers David Nyika, Alexis Pritchard and Patrick Mailata are nearing the business end of their competitions.

Nyika is on track for back to back golds if he can win his semi-final 91kg bout against Englishman Cheavon Clarke, while Pritchard (57kg) and Mailata (91kg-plus) also face key semi-final bouts.

The Black Sticks men can make the gold medal match if they beat India, as can the Tall Ferns if they win their semi-final against Australia.

The Kiwi women's sevens rugby team also begin their campaign for gold, while Rio Olympic trap shooting silver medallist Natalie Rooney will also be in action.
