Hayley Holt has redefined the term "sore loser" after she received some instant karma while attempting to sabotage another competitor's race during a special TVNZ 100 metre dash inside the Commonwealth Games' athletics stadium.
TVNZ1's Breakfast's presenter was in a race alongside some other big names from TVNZ's coverage of the Commonwealth Games, including 1 NEW's John McKenzie, Seven Sharp's Gill Higgins and former Breakfast weatherman Sam Wallace.
Holt told Breakfast this morning a plan was put in place prior to the race that McKenzie, Higgins and herself would attempt to ruin Wallace's chances of winning the race due to him entering the competition in a cocky manner.
"[We'd] come up with this brilliant plan just to sabotage Sam Wallace because he was so cocky and sure of himself but obviously it didn't go well."
Holt grabbed on to Wallace's shirt early in the race but when the radio personality went up another gear, she found herself losing balance and eventually crashing into the Carrara Stadium turf, injuring herself in the process.
"He was so strong and fast, he couldn't even feel me grabbing onto his shirt and I just went head over heels and onto the deck as you do and man it hurt!
"I felt so sick... I munched my shoulder!"
Holt was cared for by on-site medical staff following the race but she isn't yet sure of the extent of the damage.
"It's not broken, I don't think.
"I don't have a great range of motion and it's very swollen so we're just going to have to wait and see."
Wallace still went on to win the race, with Higgins taking second and McKenzie coming in third.
