National's education spokesperson Nikki Kaye has given Parliament her "top five Labour lines of spin" and called Education Minister Chris Hipkins "Trumpkins".
During a general debate in Parliament this afternoon, Ms Kaye, the MP for Auckland Central, said it's "an accidental government" and after six months in office is engaging in spin "because they don't have an agenda and promised far too much".
She then turned her sights on "Mr Hipkins, or should I call him Trumpkins, engaging in face news" and said "the facts are, under our government the education budget went from eight billion to 11 billion".
"Here are my top five Labour lines of spin," Ms Kaye said, going on to cite various statements by the Government on its policies.
"The first one, 'it's not a fuel tax. It's not a tax it's an excise' You try and tell the families in West Auckland that it doesn't mean increased costs for them. You try and tell families in South Auckland that their food isn't going to go up," she said.
Labour's plan to plant a billion trees was also "spin", she said.
"We are going to plant a billion trees. But actually we haven't planted any because it's winter. And half of them are going to be delivered by the private sector," she quoted Labour as saying.
"We're going to deliver 100,000 houses. But actually we haven't built any houses yet and half of them are going to be delivered by the private sector."
Ms Kaye said it was also "spin" that Labour had the numbers to have its MP Trevor Mallard elected Speaker.
"On this first vote of this Parliament, to show they're amateurness, their inability to run this joint, we saw them fail on that first vote.
"And then what did they do? They then handed us most of the chairs of our select committees and numbers of select committee places."
