Watch: Maria Folau asks Kiwi fans to keep faith in Silver Ferns after shock loss to minnows Malawi - 'We have the fire'

April 9, 2018

Silver Ferns star Maria Folau is asking fans to keep faith in the team after their shock Commonwealth Games loss to Malawi, saying the team is still confident they can win a medal.

Folau said after yesterday's 57-53 loss there were no excuses, but the team was still finding their feet.

"Even though that performance wasn't the one we wanted, there is a lot of heart, there is a lot of fight in this team."

Folau said now more than ever the team needs everyone's support.

"People are going to think whatever they want to think but we know we can do it," she said.

"I know that New Zealand, although most of them are behind us, you've just got to keep rallying us... we have got this. We have the belief. We have the fire - just like every other day in this black dress."

The top two teams from each pool go through to the medal playoffs.

New Zealand currently sit second on two wins and a loss behind England who are 3-0.

The Silver Ferns are yet to play England and Scotland in pool play.
