Just a week before the Commonwealth Games began, Kiwi wrestler Michelle Montague broke her leg at training camp.
But it hasn't stopped her from heading to the Gold Coast to support her team.
Montague, from the Waikato-Piako District, had been fundraising to attend a two-week training camp in Canada to get her prepared for the games.
While over there she broke her leg during training at a local high school, forcing her to withdraw from the Games.
"I was with a slightly larger partner, but that was nothing foreign to me anyway, we were just doing stuff lightly and then I stepped forward and a little bit of his weight and my weight came on it, and it didn't roll, it didn't bust out or anything, but for some reason both our weights coming down on it... it made two big pop sounds and I broke the fib."
"I still don't really get how it broke like that, but it did."
But she she didn't let her injury stop her from flying to the Gold Coast to support her teammates.
"I think after doing all that prep I wanted to be here and support my teammates that have done the hard yards the whole time. It's such a better environment – mentally – to be here than be back home watching it by myself."
Montague says she's excited to watch her team mates, but not competing alongside them is challenging.
"You do all that training and you want to compare it to say the commonwealth champs and compare how you went against the same exact people, and just you know you've trained and you're a better wrestler or athlete in this competition but you don't get to test it."
She expects it to be a few months until she's good to go again, heading into the rugby season.
But for now, she'll be cheering on our Kiwi athletes from the stands.
"I'll probably cry when these guys and girls get in those finals."
