Watch: 'I'm only paying $1.10 at the TAB!' Tom Walsh has media in stitches over red-hot pre-Commonwealth Games form

April 6, 2018

Champion Kiwi shotputter Tom Walsh had the media in stitches when discussing his red-hot form leading into the Commonwealth Games.

Walsh, the Rio Olympics bronze medalist, has dominated in recent times, including taking gold at last year's world champs.

That form has continued into 2018, but he refused to get ahead of himself when quizzed about his form at a media conference on the Gold Coast today.

"I'm not big a favourite mate, I'm still paying $1.10 at the TAB," he said to laughter when asked about going in as the man to beat.

"I know I need to take care of business, I got second at the last Commonwealth Games, and I threw really well there, I just got beaten on the day, I know I can't become complacent.

"That's something I've really built my career on over the past three or four years, is going to whatever comp it is and throwing as far as I actually should throw. If I do that, no-one's going to be close to me, for sure."

Walsh throws in qualification on Sunday. before Monday's final.
