Antigua and Barbuda's Yakita Aska must have forgotten to eat before taking on New Zealand's David Nyika at the Commonwealth Games, after being accused of biting his rival on the chest.
The light heavyweight gold medal winner at Glasgow, Nyika won his opening bout at 91kg 5-0, but told 1 NEWS' Matt Manukia immediately after the three-round fight that he's been bitten.
"I copped a couple of bite marks, a couple of low blows," he said.
"It's a tough sport, he admitted he bit me at the end. But that's the sport we're in - only the fittest survive. You gotta do what you gotta do."
Nyika didn't appear to fazed by the incident, instead reflecting on a tough first-up bout against a determined rival who was just battling to survive.
Aska said he was nervous to be fighting a gold medal winner.
Nyika's next opponent will be Cameroon's Christian Ndzie Tsoye on Tuesday in the quarterfinals and then a possible semi against England's Cheavon Clarke.
