The New Zealand men’s sprint team were extremely happy to make up for their last performance at the world championships in the Netherlands last month by winning gold at last night's Commonwealth Games final at the Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane.
Eddie Dawkins, Sam Webster and Ethan Mitchell dominated their England rivals in the final with an impressive 42.877 second time.
A breathless Dawkins said he was chuffed with his side’s performance.
"“It's pretty good. It’s about as good as a cold beer and a hot bite on a Sunday afternoon," said Dawkins.
Webster said he was glad to put last month’s sixth place result at the world championships in the Netherland’s behind him.
"We went out there and tried to raise the bar and really happy that we produced two performances, our next two fastest times after our Rio rides," said Webster.
"We wanted to come here and do our best. It was quite hard for us, we had the world championships and also this. With the preparations we caught quite a bit of flack after the worlds.
"But we stuck through and we stayed with faith in the programme and we delivered the two rides that we knew we were capable of."
New Zealand also won two silver medals in the women's pursuit 4000m final and the women's team sprint in the evening session.
