The family of a man who was gunned down in Wainuiomata earlier this month have appealled to the public for help in cracking the case.

Paul Te Hiko, 40, was found dead at a property in Wainuiomata around 11pm on Wednesday March 7.

Several neighbours told NZ Herald there were rumours the Black Power gang was involved in the shooting.

They said after the incident there was an increased Black Power presence on the streets.

Police say they have received "a large amount of information" from the public and are following up on all leads.

The family of Mr Te Hiko say they are "deeply traumatised" by his death and are asking for privacy.

They also appealed for anyone with information to come forward to the police.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
