'It's pretty empty the old DM list' - All Black Damian McKenzie has teammates play cupid in hunt for love

March 18, 2018
McKenzie has committed to NZ Rugby and the Chiefs through to 2021.

All Black Damian McKenzie is getting a little help from his Chiefs team mates when it comes to the romance department.

Chiefs players Brad Weber and Michael Allardice decided to try and market the single McKenzie to Kiwi females during a new pod cast they were hosting called Code Trippin.

The All Blacks and Chiefs fullback came on the show as their first guest and got more than he bargained for when the duo stepped up to play cupid for him.

"You own a house, drive a mustang, you must be every New Zealand girl's dream guy," Weber said to McKenzie.

McKenzie was quick to point out that he isn’t actively on the hunt for a partner right now as he focuses on his career.

"I'm really focused on my footy at the moment. but if there's the lucky one out there. She might pop up one day, hopefully before I get to Beaver's age," McKenzie said in reference to Stephen Donald who married at age 34 recently.

The comment didn't stop the hosts interrogation into his love life though, with the star full back opening up about his ideal girl.

"You always look at looks first. You have got to have a good personality I think, someone who you can relate to, someone who is very understanding. Obviously with footy we are away a lot and it can be tough at times - not that I am to experience it as of yet."

McKenzie finished with an offer that may give potential suitors hope when he said: "Hopefully she pops up one day. It's pretty empty the old DM list at the moment."
