Kiwi shot put star Tom Walsh's preparation for next month's Commonwealth Games are tracking nicely, with the world champion taking out the Super Shot competition in Christchurch this evening.

With a throw of 21.65m, Walsh won the men's event.

Speaking to 1 NEWS afterwards he said: "It was not too bad considering the weather tonight, it was a little bit cold".

"Backing up two days in a row is tough work."

"(I'm) really happy with the consistency."
