Police came to the rescue for a wife in labour and her husband who were stuck in peak-hour traffic on the way to Wellington hospital last week.
According to a post on the New Zealand Police Facebook page Constable Georgia was driving south on SH1 Ngauranga Gorge in peak hour traffic when she was waved down by a frantic man.
"He told her his wife Becca was in labour and they had been stuck in traffic since Porirua," the post reads.
The constable then put Becca in the back of the police car, turned on the lights and sirens.
"They reached the hospital within 10 minutes to meet staff waiting with a wheelchair."
A couple of hours later Becca gave birth to a baby girl named Natalie.
New mum, Becca Allen commented on the NZ Police Facebook post writing, "We were super grateful for Georgia's calmness and awesome driving".
The couple met the constable again yesterday to give thanks, and baby Natalie now has a favourite toy - a police puppy named Georgia.
