Three people suffered minor injuries after a boat flipped on the on the notorious Kaituna Bar near Tauranga.
Police were notified at 5:50pm that a boat had flipped at Kaituna.
A Coastguard spokesperson has told 1 NEWS that four people were rescued and checked over by ambulance staff.
The occupants came into trouble when crossing the Kaituna Bar and their 5.5m alloy vessel flipped.
It’s believed they were travelling back from fishing earlier in the day.
The bar, at the mouth of the Kaituna River near the Bay of Plenty town of Maketu, is notoriously difficult to cross for boaties.
