Over 300 without power in Whanganui

January 8, 2018

Over 300 households in Whanganui were without power this morning after a power pole broke.

A spokesperson from Powerco said the 322 customers lost power at 9.45am.

Power has been restored to all but five customers.

"A cross arm on a pole broke about 9.45am and about 320 customers lost power in the St Johns Hill area. That has been temporarily restored to all but five customers," he said.

"A further planned outage will happen today so permanent repairs can be made."

Timing for that outage was yet to be confirmed.

Fire and Emergency NZ said it has coned off the area around the pole to keep the public safe.
