'A sting in the tail' - latest forecast as strong winds and heavy rain batters North Island

1 NEWS weather presenter Dan Corbett is warning of a "one, two, three punch" as strong winds and a king tide are set to cause chaos in the North Island this evening.

Corbett has a warning to campers in coastal areas overnight.

"So if you're camping, take some care, come back, make preparations, precautions," he warns.

The wild weather is expected to ease over the weekend.
