The medical safety authority is limiting the supply of certain types of mesh used in gynaecological surgery after questions over their safety.
The decision follows the review and subsequent restrictions of surgical mesh in Australia.
Medsafe says suppliers here must provide safety information about their devices on request, and many have been contacted to begin restricting their supply from next year.
Surgical mesh will still be used for other surgical conditions.
